I first joined GCSAA in 1997 as a graduate student at Virginia Tech. Prior to enrolling I had been working at a small, 9-hole course back home in Virginia, Lake Bonaventure CC. LBCC was the only golf course in the entire county. When I received my membership card and certificate I knew instantly I now belonged to something much larger than I ever imagined and this dream of becoming a golf course superintendent took on a whole new meaning. I have loved every minute of being a golf course superintendent and GCSAA has been with me every step of the way. I have traveled across this country attending GIS and made many close friends through my membership and numerous networking opportunities. Over the past few years I have become more involved at the chapter level and this year I had the opportunity to serve on a GCSAA Task Group. It only takes one visit to headquarters in Lawrence, KS to get a full appreciation for everything GCSAA does for golf course superintendents. I would encourage anyone in the golf course maintenance industry to become a member of GCSAA. There is nothing else like our brotherhood and there is strength in numbers.
